Congrats to today's ten Fresno Compact winners, four of which have business-education partnerships with #CentralUnified. These businesses work with our schools by providing time, learning incentives, goods, and so much more. Yribarren Family Vineyards: Jeff and Wendy Bonar Yribarren have served on the Parent Club, School Site Council, District Advisory Team, the Foundation for Central Schools board, and given numerous donations of items for silent auctions and fundraisers, as well as offering their home and vineyard for events like the Janessa Ramirez Scholarship Awards Dinner, among others. NutriAg Ltd.: This local agriculural company has provided #BiolaPershingElementary students hands-on experience with planting lots prepared with nutrient planting soil and a watering system. Students learn about the life cycle of plants and crops and explore careers in Agriculture and Forestry. JR'S Sports: This local sports memorabilia store has donated time and products to schools throughout Fresno County, including River Bluff's Fall Carnival and Central High School. Their products are given for fundraisers, positive behavior incentives and rewards for academic excellence. Fresno Elks Lodge: Susan Good and Jack Geiger of the Fresno Elks Lodge have given many hours to write grants and interact with the students at Pershing Continuation School. These two solicited Elks grants for the Gratitude Project where students interview and record the memories of local veterans about their service. There's so much more to share about these organizations. To read more, look for the Fresno Compact insert in today's The Fresno Bee paper. Many thanks to these businesses and individuals for making such an invaluable and positive #impact on our students in CentralUSD!

There was a shooting in the area of Shields and Valentine. Fresno Police Department alerted administration that a Central Unified student sustained a non-life threatening injury and is being treated at a local hospital. Police are still on the scene and handling the investigation. Student and staff safety are always our chief priority and we are cooperating with law enforcement.
#CentralHigh had a special treat: Mayor Gil Avérous, Deputy Mayor Jean-yves Hugon and Director Secretary Xavier Elbaz from Fresno’s sister city, Châteauroux, France visited today and answered questions about French culture, the Mayor's future plans, and much more. Mayor Gil Avérous has corresponded with Central High School’s French class via Skype since early 2016 after Fresno adopted Châteauroux as its French sister city. Central High students encouraged Avérous, Hugon, and Elbaz to try In & Out Burger, which they did. Special thanks to teacher Scott Donaghe and Board member Terry Cox for helping to coordinate this great opportunity to engage our students with our sister city officials. #impact
